Students in this program learn the skills required to become Cardiac Telemetry Technicians. Cardiac Telemetry Technicians are health professionals responsible for measuring and reporting the patient's heart rhythm and rate. Students will learn to ensure proper electrode placement on the patient, record the Electrocardiogram (ECG) and measure, interpret and report ECG wave form results to the nursing staff and physician. Upon successful completion of the certificate, students will also be eligible to take the National Certification Electrocardiogram (ECG) Exam.
Program Admission Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 18 years old by the start of the clinical requirement
- Successful background check
- Academic Reading and Writing Levels of 6 are required.
Continuing Eligibility Requirements
Must be met prior to starting HSC 140 Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring:
- Mandatory attendance at HSC 140 Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring orientation
- Successful background check prior to taking the course, per explanation
- Academic Reading and Writing Levels of 6
- Completion of GED or high school diploma
Must be met prior to clinical placement in HSC 140 Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring:
- Negative TB skin test
- Complete Health History form (physical examination by practitioner)
- Hepatitis immunization series or updated titers on file
- Health insurance
- Current BLS/CPR from AHA
- Background check/drug/fingerprinting per policy of hospital
